Review by Nathan:
Not:e This is a complete review of the book so have someone else read it if you want to read the book.
This book, War Horse, is about a horse named Joey. Joey was separated from his mother as a foal and bought by a man who was drunk and bid to spite his neighbor. The man's son named Albert cares an loves Joey. But the family needs money so Albert's dad sells Joey to the British cavalry during WWI. Albert is upset by this and decides to join the military to stay with Joey but is denied because he is only 15 years old. Albert vows to join and find Joey as soon as he is old enough.
Joey is taken to France with Captain Nicholls on his back. In their first battle, Captain Nicholls is killed. In the next battle Joey along with his new rider Trooper Warren are taken as POW by the Germans. Joey is put to work pulling ambulance carts alongside his best horse friend, Topthorn. After a little while they are no longer needed at the hospital so they are taken to a nearby Frenchman's farm. The farmer and his granddaughter, Emilie, care for and love the horses. But they are soon taken by other not so friendly Germans to pull guns.
Soon Joey and Topthorn are under the care of Friedrich who is killed by artillery shelling. The same day, Topthorn dies from the strains of pulling the guns. Joey ends up lost and hurt in "no-man's land". He is soon spotted by both sides and they call a temporary truce to free Joey. A British man wins Joey on a coin toss and Joey is soon on to an allied veterinary clinic behind the lines.
This just happens to be the same clinic were Albert is working with his wartime friend David. There is a happy reunion. But the happiness doesn't last long as David is killed by a stray shell while rescuing hurt horses. At the end of the war Joey is put up for auction and is almost bought by the local butcher but Emilie's grandfather shows up and buys the horse. Emilie has died and her grandfather ends up giving the Joey to Albert. Albert and Joey go home to England, Albert marries his sweetheart and they all "lives happily ever after."

The Movie
War Horse is also a movie-produced in 2011. This movie does not follow the book closely. The movie is rated PG-13.Bellow is a link for a review for it.
Note to Parents:This book contains several descriptions of the horrors of wars. I would recommend that younger children stay away from this book. Horse lovers may not want to read this book due to the harsh treatment and suffering of the horses.
